1. Accuracy: what we promise and what we cannot

Every story published on NewsDunia is reported by a named journalist and passes through an editor before it appears. We check names, figures, dates and quotations against a source we can point to. We put allegations to the person or institution concerned before publication and we publish the reply. That is our standard and we hold ourselves to it.

What we cannot promise is that every statement will prove, in the end, to be correct. Sources are sometimes wrong, official records sometimes contain errors, and a picture assembled at nine in the evening can look different at nine the next morning. Content is provided on an “as published” basis. We make no warranty, express or implied, that any article is complete, current or fit for any particular purpose, and we do not accept liability for loss arising from reliance on it, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

If you are about to make a decision of consequence — financial, medical, legal or personal — treat our reporting as a starting point and verify the underlying facts with the relevant authority or a qualified professional.

2. Timeliness, developing stories and live coverage

Every article carries a publication timestamp in Indian Standard Time, and any substantive edit adds an “Updated” timestamp. Read both. A story marked Developing is one where the facts are still moving; we publish what is confirmed, we say what is not, and we update as more becomes known.

Live blogs are a running record, not a finished account. Individual entries reflect what was reported at that minute and may be superseded by a later entry in the same blog. Where an entry is subsequently found to be wrong, we do not silently delete it: we strike it through, add a note explaining what changed, and carry the correction into the settled story.

Figures reported during a developing event — casualty counts, damage estimates, vote tallies, market moves — are provisional by nature and are attributed to the body that issued them. Where two credible bodies give different numbers, we give both.

3. Opinion pieces represent their author, not the publication

Articles published in our Opinion section, and every column, editorial-page essay, letter, review and guest contribution, represent the views of the named author alone. They do not represent the views of NewsDunia, of its editors, of its other journalists, or of Catalyst Web Trendz Pvt. Ltd. Publishing a piece is not an endorsement of its argument; it is a judgement that the argument is made in good faith, is factually defensible and is worth putting before readers.

Opinion content is labelled as such: a blue kicker reading “Opinion”, the author’s name and role, and placement under the Opinion desk. Our news reporting carries no such label because it is not opinion. If you find a piece where the distinction is unclear, tell us — that is a labelling failure and we will fix it.

Contributors are asked to disclose any interest — employment, shareholding, membership, funding or family connection — relevant to what they are writing about, and that disclosure appears in the author note beneath the piece. Our columnists write independently; we do not require them to agree with us, and we have published columns arguing against positions taken in our own editorials.

4. Third-party links and embedded material

We link to source documents, official records, research papers and other publications so that you can check us. A link is not an endorsement of the linked site, its owner, its accuracy or its advertising, and we have no control over what it contains after we link to it. Third-party sites operate under their own terms and privacy policies; when you leave NewsDunia, ours stop applying.

Where we embed material from another platform — a video, a post, a document viewer — that embed may load content and set storage from the platform concerned. Where our cookie banner has not been accepted, third-party embeds are replaced with a click-to-load placeholder so that nothing is fetched without your say-so.

If you find a link on NewsDunia that has gone to a parked domain, a malware host or something wholly unrelated to the story, write to the Grievance Officer and we will remove or repoint it.

5. Advertising, sponsored content and commercial independence

NewsDunia carries advertising, and advertising pays for a share of the reporting. Advertisements are the responsibility of the advertiser. We do not verify the claims made in them and their appearance is not an endorsement of any product, service, offer or organisation. Complaints about a specific advertisement should be sent to us and, where appropriate, to the relevant self-regulatory body for advertising standards.

Sponsored, branded or partner content is clearly labelled at the top of the piece, is visually distinct from editorial, and is never written by the reporters who cover the sponsor’s sector. It is excluded from our most-read rankings and our newsletters’ editorial slots. Our newsroom has no obligation to advertisers, and advertisers get no advance sight of stories that mention them.

Where an article contains an affiliate link and we would earn a commission from a purchase, we say so in the article, in the same size type as the rest of it.

6. Market, financial and business information is not advice

Our business desk reports on markets, companies, rates and economic data. None of it is investment advice, a research report, or a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security or instrument. We are not registered as an investment adviser or research analyst, and nothing we publish should be treated as a personal recommendation to you.

Prices, index levels, yields, exchange rates and valuations quoted in our reporting are indicative, are taken at the time stated, and may be delayed. Past performance is not a guide to future performance. Investments can fall as well as rise. Before acting on anything you read here, consult a professional registered to advise you, and read the offer document.

Our journalists are subject to an internal dealing policy that requires disclosure of holdings and prohibits trading in securities they cover. Where a reporter has a relevant interest, it is disclosed in the piece.

7. Health, medical and safety information

Our health desk reports on research, treatments, outbreaks, drug approvals and public health policy. That reporting describes what studies and authorities say; it is not medical advice and is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified doctor. Never delay seeking or disregard professional medical advice because of something you read on NewsDunia.

Where we report a study, we state its size, its design and its limitations, because a small early-stage trial and a large randomised one are not the same evidence. Where we report an outbreak or a safety advisory, the operative source is the issuing health authority, whose current guidance may have changed since we published.

Nutrition, fitness and wellbeing features in our Lifestyle section are general interest writing, not clinical guidance, and they carry no assessment of suitability for any individual.

8. Archive content reflects the date it was published

NewsDunia maintains a public archive because the record matters. An archived article is a record of what was known and reported on its publication date. It is not maintained, refreshed or re-verified, and prices, appointments, contact details, legal positions and scientific consensus described in it may have changed entirely.

We do not remove accurate journalism from the archive because a subject would prefer it gone, and we do not quietly rewrite history. Where a later development materially changes the meaning of an old story — a conviction overturned, a finding reversed, an inquiry concluded — we add a dated update note at the top linking to the current position. In narrow cases involving a serious and ongoing risk to a private individual’s safety, we will consider de-indexing on written request, and we record that we have done so.

9. Illustrations, data visualisations and reconstructions

Charts and illustrations published by NewsDunia are drawn by our own graphics desk from the data cited in the accompanying caption. Where an illustration is a schematic or a reconstruction rather than a depiction of an actual scene, the caption says so. Axes are labelled, scales are not truncated to exaggerate a change, and the underlying figures are stated so that you can redraw them yourself.

Photographs and illustrations are never generated to depict an event we did not verify, and we do not use synthetic imagery of real people. Any image that has been enhanced beyond routine colour and crop adjustment is captioned to say so.

10. User contributions and reader comments

Comments, letters and other reader contributions express the views of the people who wrote them, not of NewsDunia. We moderate against the code of conduct in our Terms of Use, but moderation happens at human speed and a contribution may be visible before it is reviewed. We do not adopt, verify or endorse the factual claims made in reader contributions.

Report a comment using the flag control beside it, or write to the Grievance Officer. We aim to act on flagged content within twenty-four working hours.

11. Corrections policy

We correct in the open. Our practice is:

• Correction — a factual error. The article is fixed and a dated note at the foot states what was wrong and what it now says. The note stays permanently.
• Clarification — nothing was factually wrong but the wording could mislead. The passage is rewritten and a note explains the change.
• Update — new information has arrived. Added with its own timestamp; the original text is not deleted.
• Retraction — the story should not have been published. The article is replaced with a full explanation signed by the editor, and it is not quietly removed.

Where an error appeared in a newsletter or on our social accounts, the correction is issued in the same place, at the same prominence. We publish a running corrections log and an annual count — thirty-one corrections across forty-one investigations at the last count, a number we would rather publish than pretend away.

To request a correction, write to the Grievance Officer with the article link, the passage concerned and the evidence. We do not require a legal notice, and asking politely works.

12. Grievance redress under the IT Rules, 2021

NewsDunia is a publisher of news and current affairs content within the meaning of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and observes the Code of Ethics set out in those Rules. We operate the three-tier grievance mechanism they require.

• Level I — the publisher. Write to our Grievance Officer using the details below. Every grievance is acknowledged within twenty-four working hours and disposed of, with reasons, within fifteen days.
• Level II — the self-regulatory body. If our decision does not satisfy you, you may escalate within fifteen days of it to the self-regulating body of publishers of which we are a member; we will give you its current address and procedure with our reply.
• Level III — the oversight mechanism. Thereafter, the oversight mechanism established by the Central Government under the Rules may be approached.

Nothing in this route affects any other remedy available to you in law, including under the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or the general law. Governing law is Indian law and, subject to the arbitration provision in our Terms of Use, the courts at New Delhi have exclusive jurisdiction.
